What Murmeli looks like

Three screens from the app, captured on a real phone.

Murmeli baby monitor app: start screen with the choice between baby device and parent device
Set up in two minutes: one phone becomes the baby device, the other stays with you.
Murmeli baby monitor app: live video from the nursery on the parent phone
Live video from the nursery, with night vision and camera light.
Murmeli baby monitor app: "Baby is awake" alert on the parent phone
Murmeli alerts you the moment your child wakes up.

Why Murmeli?

Murmeli stores neither audio nor video. Transmission is WebRTC-encrypted and direct between your phones whenever possible.

πŸ“±

Your phone becomes a baby monitor

No expensive extra device needed: two phones are enough. An old phone becomes the baby unit, yours stays with you. Android in the nursery and iPhone with you? Works – in both directions.

🚨

Connection and audio monitored

Murmeli checks the control channel, microphone and incoming audio packets separately. A detected failure turns red and alerts visibly and, when system sound settings allow, audibly. Murmeli automatically attempts recovery.

πŸ”’

WebRTC encrypted

Audio and video travel directly whenever possible. If a network blocks that path, the Swiss TURN server relays the still-encrypted stream. Murmeli stores no recordings.

🚫

No ads, no account

No sign-up, no analytics or advertising tracking by Murmeli, no ads. Open, pair, done.

πŸ“‘

Wi-Fi & on the go

At home on Wi-Fi or out on mobile data – Murmeli switches automatically.

πŸŒ™

Built for background use

With the required permissions, monitoring is designed for lock-screen use. The operating system or power saving can still interrupt it; Murmeli shows a clear warning.

πŸ”‹

Battery friendly

Audio-first mode: video only when you want it. This reduces battery use and heat.

πŸ—£οΈ

Talk back & more

Talk back, night vision, camera light and noise alerts – all controlled from the parent device.

πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§

Mum, dad & grandma

Up to three parent devices watching the same baby at once.

What does β€œRemote mode” mean?

Remote mode means the baby and parent devices are connected over the internet – for example via mobile data or different Wi-Fi networks. The Swiss relay helps establish the encrypted connection. Audio and video travel directly whenever possible; if necessary, the Swiss TURN server relays the still-encrypted stream. Murmeli stores no recordings.

βœ“

Connection or audio lost? Critical alert.

Murmeli checks the connection every few seconds and also verifies actual audio RTP reception. A failure overrides the sleep display, alerts visibly and, when sounds are allowed, audibly, and restarts the connection automatically.

βœ“

Less battery use and heat

Audio-first approach and an auto-dimming baby screen. Video runs only when you switch it on.

βœ“

Fewer false alarms

By default, the clearly visible sensitivity threshold applies. Optionally, the smart filter can ignore steady background noise such as fans.

βœ“

No subscription – pay once

Subscription baby monitor apps cost between CHF 2 and CHF 12 a month. Over two years that is CHF 48 to CHF 288. You unlock Murmeli once for CHF 4.90: cheaper than any subscription within the first year – and free forever after.

βœ“

Runs reliably in the background

Monitoring keeps running with the screen locked, and you can use other apps at the same time without the connection dropping.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use my old phone as a baby monitor?

Yes, that is exactly what Murmeli is built for. The older phone stays in the nursery as the baby unit, your current phone acts as the parent unit. There is no separate baby monitor to buy.

Does a baby monitor app work without Wi-Fi?

Yes. Murmeli connects directly over a shared Wi-Fi network when it can. If that is not possible, the app automatically switches to remote mode over mobile data. The Swiss relay establishes the encrypted connection.

Are baby monitor apps safe?

It depends on the app. Murmeli transmits audio and video WebRTC-encrypted and, whenever possible, directly between the two phones. There is no user account, no audio or video recording and no advertising or analytics tracking. Servers are located in Switzerland.

How much does Murmeli cost?

The download is free and includes a trial of 48 hours on iPhone and iPad, 2 hours on Android. The full version is a one-time purchase of CHF 4.90 in Switzerland, EUR 4.90 in the euro area and USD 5.99 in the USA. There is no subscription and no recurring cost.

Do I need an account?

No. Murmeli requires no sign-up. The two devices are paired with a QR code or a remote code plus a six-digit PIN.

Can several people listen at the same time?

Yes. Up to three parent devices can monitor the same baby unit at once, for example mother, father and grandparents.
