Murmeli stores neither audio nor video. Transmission is WebRTC-encrypted and direct between your phones whenever possible.
No expensive extra device needed: two phones are enough. An old phone becomes the baby unit, yours stays with you. Android in the nursery and iPhone with you? Works – in both directions.
Murmeli checks the control channel, microphone and incoming audio packets separately. A detected failure turns red and alerts visibly and, when system sound settings allow, audibly. Murmeli automatically attempts recovery.
Audio and video travel directly whenever possible. If a network blocks that path, the Swiss TURN server relays the still-encrypted stream. Murmeli stores no recordings.

Yes. Murmeli connects directly over a shared Wi-Fi network when it can. If that is not possible, the app automatically switches to remote mode over mobile data. The Swiss relay establishes the encrypted connection. Only with no network at all does it not work. More: Baby monitor app without Wi-Fi.
It depends on the app. Murmeli transmits audio and video WebRTC-encrypted and, whenever possible, directly between the two phones. There is no user account, no audio or video recording and no advertising or analytics tracking. Servers are located in Switzerland.
That is your phone's indicator, not Murmeli's. Orange means an app has the microphone open. Green means the camera is on. On the baby device the microphone is always open, otherwise there would be no sound. The camera only runs there while video is on. On the parent device the microphone is ready for "Hold to talk" and stays muted until you hold the button. Murmeli records nothing and stores nothing. Android shows the same with a green icon in the top right corner.

No. Murmeli requires no sign-up. The two devices are paired with a QR code or a remote code plus a six-digit PIN.
Yes. Up to three parent devices can monitor the same baby unit at once, for example mother, father and grandparents.
